You are definitely not the only one. Love Actually is my favourite Christmas movie, but not my only one. It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street (the original one), Home Alone, anything by Nora Ephron or Nancy Meyers all get watched ad nauseum:-) Blazing Saddles, when I need a good belly laugh. I have a library of DVDs that I prefer to a lot of stuff that is "new". And, yes, I can quote lines, too:-)

H2point0 says,

A&E's Pride and Prejudice - Colin Firth

SingerSomewhere says,

Dispicable Me, Elf, Miracle on 34th Street (I'm with you on the original, canadafreeze), Dead Poets Society, all of the Harry Potter Movies, Speak, Annie. It goes on and on. On some of them, I can practically quote the whole movie.

Wench says,

"Anne of Green Gables (and Avonlea)", "Love, Actually" (good taste, guys, I love this one), "The Fifth Element", and oh man, there are quite a few I could watch over and over again.

JAD says,

I'm an old timer and love the old black and white movies and some that were remade in color. Few that I watch over and over. Ben-Hur...Ten Commandments.....White Heat.......Jezebel......Mildred Pierce....Imitation of Life. Postman Always Rings Twice. Double Indemity. I could go on and on, but I'm gonna stop here. And yes can quote word for word.

Bevvie says,

Working Girl every New Year's Eve and in between if it comes on television!

the others are all sci fi which I LOVE.

Dragonflower says,

Wow! I feel so not alone anymore! A coworker and I used to quote You've Got Mail while we were working. I miss her. Love, Actually favorite couple is Colin Firth and the Portuguese house cleaner lady. I love it when he asks her to marry him and she says, "Yes. Easy question." Gets me every time! I also like the original 34th Street., The Holiday and The Family Stone. Also all the Christmakuh episodes on The OC. My dad had a thing about not watching movies over and over. I had to sneak out to see Funny Girl at the theater. I saw it about 10 times. My girlfriend gave me a blue marble egg for Christmas that year. Thanks everyone!

Dragonflower says,

bevvie: my daughter is not a big romantic comedy person but she loves sci fi and the super scary movies. Not sure where she got that from! i hide my eyes and peek between my fingers.

The Perfect Storm

A Christmas Story

Dragonflower says,

Something's Gotta Give has a great deleted scene on the DVD. Harry sings kareoke to Erica and you really get the sense they had a special time together and helps in understanding why Erica fell so in love with him. One of my favorite year round movies. Plus it has Keanu Reeves. Love the scene where he jumps over the couch to chase Erica.

Deep Impact - feeds my irrational fear of BIG waves.
I love entire Star Wars or L.O.T.R. days
Kill Bill 1&2- Will purge me of vengefullness.
The Green Mile - Makes me weep openly.
Eat Pray Love - Sappy but I enjoy it.

sisterpoet says,

Fight club
Dead Poet's society
Alice in Wonderland

Dragonflower says,

Sisterpoet: do you mean the Tim Burton A in Wonderland? If so, I LOVE that movie. I wanted to be the White Queen for 3 halloweens now. I will be one day. Love out Alice recites her six impossible things to give her courage against the jabborwocky. (not spelled right, sorry)

ba)miracle, EPL is my favorite book, I've read it 40 times at least and favorite parts too many times to count. In the movie I like the Brazilian woman who wants the banana root hair treatment - she says it makes your hair look like Cher circa 1970.

August Rush is tweaking my memory. I think I liked it but have forgotten it. I'll watch it again--venturing out to video store on this stormy CA day. (that means it is raining slightly....)

Love all these comments.

Oh - I thought of another favorite - Father of the Bride. Makes me laugh and cry. Especially when the dad makes the daughter fancy bridal athletic shoes (his business is athletic shoes). Steve Martin can be exceptionally poignant. I never appreciated him enough back in the day.

NumbrOneAunt says,

DynamicDbytheC says,

Good, some movie tips. I don't like watching movies more than once. Maybe many years later I will see it a again. As a kid, I saw "Sound of Music" in the theater, seven times. I love the classics such as To Kill a Mockingbird, In the Heat of the Night, Death of a Salesman, etc. and would always take time to watch them if they are showing on the Movie Channel.

Dragonflower says,

I still will see a movie several times in the theater if it is especially good. I saw Hope Springs four times this summer. Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep. My son-in-law was just talking about In the Heat of the Night the other day! I love Sidney Poitier. Out of Africa is another of my favorites--the soundtrack leaves me breathless. I saw it in the theater the first time. I hadn't been out of the house for six months without my baby daughter until I went to see Out of Africa. Then I bought a VCR player a few years later and it was the first movie I rented. That's when my obsession for watching movies over and over began. Wanted to get my money's worth on the rental fee!

Dragonflower says,

Now that it is December 1st, I can watch Love, Actually (my ritual must wait until it is actually December to watch it). YAY! Every year I have new favorite part. Last year what cracked me up was when David finally finds Natalie at her parent's house and she is about to leave for school recital with her family. The kids are different sea creatures that are in the Nativity (like 1st Lobster, and Octopus). Natalie's mom made the Octopus costume and tells David, "Eight is a lot of legs, David" It's funny because she is speaking to the prime minister! And she is so serious about it! Can't wait to discover this year's new favorite part. Love it to pieces!

Larry_D._Smith says,

Miller's Crossing just gets richer and richer with each viewing -- once a year, at least.

Dragonflower says,

An old movie I watch about once a year is Lilies of the Field, with Sidney Poitier. Thinking of b/w movies, reminded me of Philadephia Story. Love that one. It feels so contemporary.

Princess Bride

Dragonflower says,

Princess Bride was mentioned a few times! While I was on vacation last week, it was on the TV. I saw a sword fight but no princesses so I moved on....we watched a very brady Christmas and a Christmas episode of the oldAlex P. Keaton sitcom with Michael J. Fox. and a Country Christmas music show. I don't have television so switching channels was great fun for me!
Happy Christmas eve eve!

Redx3 says,

So many repeats, so please excuse my repeats :
Pride and Predjudice
Anything Disney
Princess Bride
Independence Day
Fifth Element
White Christmas
Cutting Edge
...I know, sad.

Dragonflower says,

Redx3, Disney movies are my favorites too. I just don't admit it very often. I went to Disneyland a few years ago and stood in line with all the kids to get autographs of my beloved characters. I was the only single adult (without any kids with me) !! I was a little jealous of the cute little girls in the Belle costumes. I wanted one to be Belle too!

I have got to see Princess Bride, so many people listed it. Loved reading your list. Not sad at all...great list.

Redx3 says,

Autumn, our cake topper at our wedding was Belle and Beast. We crossed into scary lame town decades ago. Our kids used to be our cover story. Now, they are teens and we have re-entered Lamesville, population everynerd. Thankfully, we are surrounded by friends as goofy as we are! Ha! So, let your inner Lame shine lady, you are not alone!
