Do you remember your best birthday?
Backstory
I recently attended the 7th birthday party of one of the very special little people in my life. The exciting build-up went on for weeks beforehand, and everyone around him got caught up in it. It was to be a Spiderman-themed affair, complete with star-in-your-own-comic-book activities, character face-painting, and web wars with silly string, to name a few. With a sugar rush-inducing pinata at the end.On the given day, aside from the adults who figure large in his small life (in whose number I am proud to be counted), he had his three closest friends in attendance. He had the coolest cake, and the greatest spread of snacks. And as I watched him run and play, laughing and carefree, unwrap his gifts with glee, and share all the excitement of the day with his friends, I found myself thinking, "He is having the greatest day ever." And hoping in my heart that he would always remember it this way, as well as have many, many more.

21st. Dinner at a fantastic microbrewery with my family, grandma included. After, went out with my dad and Nathaniel and met up with my best friend and her boyfriend to see William Elliot Whitmore play. He cancelled last minute, which I was bummed about, but the band travelling with him, Hoots and Hellmouth was awesome. After, said goodnight to my dad and went to our favorite local dive, where the lesbian bartender dressed in leather sang Happy Birthday to me, twice.accidentaltourist says,
I've had a lot of birthdays. Trying hard to remember one that was as special to me as that little boy's 7th.Wench says,
As a kid, we didn't watch tv or read comic books, and we weren't allowed to have sugar. Tofu and seaweed were staples in our diet and we never bought souvenirs or went to Chuck'E'Cheeses. Naturally, kids weren't always excited to come to our house for sugar-free poppy seed bread birthday cake. My adult birthdays were much better. =)jl333 says,
I would have to say my 40th. Kind of funny, because 99% of my friends forgot that it was my birthday. The day went on, and I was bored silly. My one friend ended up telling the neighbor friend in the middle of the day that it was my birthday. The neighbor friend has two young kids. Immediately they went to the store and bought stuff to bake a Spiderman cake for me. They called me around 7:30 to invite me over. The kids had been busy decorating the backyard for me with stringers and the such. They picked out games like pin-the-tail on the donkey (of course the kids one this one). They bought a pinata, and it was hilarious to watch the grown ups trying to hit the darn thing. The entire party was put on by a 4 and 5 year old...and I have to say, what started out as a boring day, turned out to be one hell of a party!l8leigh says,
A couple stand out in my memory. One year I got to go to the taping of a tv show for kids called Skipper Andy. I thought that was extremely exciting. And another year (or maybe it was the same one, I'm not sure), my friends and I took turns swinging at a candy-filled pinata. Good times.Dragonflower says,
None of my kid birthdays. But when I was 25 my friends and I went out to dinner. My birthday just before Christmas so everything is decorated with lights and pretty decorations. We continued the party at my apt and everyone ended up staying over, sleeping on the floor. It was the wildest party I ever had. I think we all had a hangover for 3 days. But the absolute best birthday was my 55th birthday. My wonderful daughter took me to Las Vegas. I'd never been before. We stayed at the Mandalay Bay and we drank a beer at 10:30 in the morning just because we could! I won $100 jackpot and had the best massage at the Mandalay Bay spa. We were there 3 days and saw everything. It was cold but everything was decorated for Christmas. The Belagio garden made me cry it was so beautiful. Flying reindeers made out of pecans. I talk about this trip regularly. My eyes light up when I do. I'm like that 7 year old boy about this birthday! In fact, I just put out a picture of me smiling on this trip as a reminder of how happy I was.
