I was going to say "tact" but Bevvie says it better above. Some people I have known have been brutal with the truth. To me that is cruel. I believe strongly in being tactful in dealing with people always.
I agree. Some people use "truth" like a weapon. So, if given only the choice between the two, I'd choose tact first. It's just a shame that for so many people it's an either/or question.
I rarely leave people in two minds as to where they stand we me. I'm probably the last person to ask if you don't want to hear the truth.
About Six-Word Questions
SMITH Magazine brings you an entirely new kind of six-word experience: Six-Word Questions. This is the place to pose a question to the SMITH community from, "What are your favorite Six-Word quotations" to challenging members to pen Six-Word Obituaries to the recently departed to Six-Word jokes and any other Six-Word question you can dream up. You can even request that the responses be in six words. Everyone has a question—what's yours?

"Tell all the Truth but tell it slant" Emily Dickinson.Sorry to get all English major, but I love this line from D's poem. It explains so well how truth should be handled!
