One poem that affected your life?



Backstory

Back in eighth grade, my English teacher promised we would get an A if we memorized "The Raven." Needless to say I was smitten with it. I memorized nearly half of it and can still spit the first stanza. "The Raven" was really where poetry started for me.

Mary Oliver's "The Journey" is one that speaks to my grown up self... but I, too, can recite "The Raven" and do every year to a room full of freshmen. Love it!
