When my youngest son was born I suffered from post-natal depression. One day I took my baby and autistic toddler to the local shopping centre and upon leaving, found I had no recollection of where my car was. I stood at the shopping centre entry doors, looking out at a sea of cars, holding on to my kids, feeling absolute despair. The next moment an old Holden with a rough-looking man inside pulled up alongside us. He looked at me, then put his arm up and pointed. I looked at where he was pointing and there was my car. He then drove off. The Bible says "some have entertained angels unawares". I truly believe he may have been an angel sent from God to encourage me at that time.

Years ago, I was driving on the busy freeway. I noticed a car stranded on the side of the freeway in the emergency lane. By the time I had the thought to help this person, I had already passed. So I took the first exit, and had to go all the way around which was probably a 20 minute drive just to get back to the disabled car. In retrospect, I should have never even put myself in that situation...being a young female and by myself. As I am now approaching the car to park behind it, another car pulls up beside me (out of the blue), man gets out of his car, comes up to my window and says, "I got it from here". From that day, I've always thought that an angel intervened an took me out of what could have been a really bad situation.

Funny these are both about cars. Two weeks ago, our car ran out of gas on the Roosevelt Boulevard in Philly, apparently one of the most dangerous major roads in the country. We were in the center lanes of traffic and had just rounded a bend at the bottom of a hill, so we were completely out of view of traffic behind us. It was also pouring. My husband told me to throw a towel over our son's car seat, get to the side of the road and start walking. Because we were under an overpass, there was just a big concrete wall and about 200 feet uphill until we got to the next intersection. Also, we only have one phone. I gave it to him, covered our baby and started walking. About 30 feet out, a car pulled over and a middle-aged woman jumped out of the passenger's side and said she'd take me and our baby wherever we were going. There was a girl my age and I guess a ten-year-old girl in the car. I said thanks and got in, only afterwards remembering that whole, "Don't get in a car with strangers, especially with your baby, stupid" thing. The driver let me use her phone to call my husband. They drove me around the corner to a convenience store where I waited for my husband to get us after he'd picked up gas. I was so grateful for their kindness. If it had just been me, I'd have been ok, but knowing how many people are killed on that road (we were at a funeral last year for a friend) I was really freaked out to have our baby in such danger. So thank you, strangers in the car on a rainy day on the Boulevard.

He emailed me. Wanted me to teach his wife how to hand-color black & white photographs, both with the old fashioned oils as well as a more modern style I had developed. I said no. He persisted. Ten years later, we were married.
