The author believing he or she is a writer matters most. An intention to communicate with an audience, be it oneself or someone else defines being a writer.

Personally, the willingness to be open and honest, especially with myself. And to be relatable even if only to one other person. And lastly, practice, practice, and more practice. Thanks Mr. Guinta (7th grade English teacher and language lover).
