Wench says,

I don't know, but aren't they terrifying?

treehugger says,

Rock-a-bye-baby is awful! I won't even sing it. But I was listening to some on YouTube today, and I didn't even know what most of them were talking about... like "This old man, he played one..."

accidentaltourist says,

Many were written as indirect political slurs, and many were written when childhood was not kind to children....health-wise or discipline-wise.

MO_Thoughts2 says,

It is said that "Ring around the Rosie" is about the bubonic plague.

@treehugger -- I sang RockABye Baby, but changed it to "and momma will catch baby, cradle and all"

marymc says,

I skipped all those with my son. I wrote my own rhymes and sang, "Baby baby" by Amy Grant and "The River" by Garth Brooks as lullabies.

accidentaltourist says,

Ha...three songs I sang as lullabies: "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head," "You've Got A Friend," and "Sunshine, Lollipops, & Rainbows." My kids might need therapy.

MO_Thoughts2 says,

Barnyard Dance was one my kid's favorite. Nice catchy sing songy diddy.

maryjane31 says,

This ones an oldie but my mother gave my baby a music box that played "Fly Me To The Moon" and I always sang that to him while rocking him to sleep. Still Have the music box and when I play it I start to cry. Why did they grow up? Sob!
