Parents who can't accept that their precious babies aren't exceptional in every way. Ever notice that no one's kids are average anymore? Coddled children grow up to be entitled adults.
Children who have been told whatever they do, it is ok. Well sometimes it is wrong. There is such a thing as right and wrong. Not everything can be justified. We have lost that in our land of gray.
I blame sports trophies for showing up. My kid was 5 and played football. They lost every game because the coach had all these elaborate plays and the kids had the attention span of gnats. The season ends and the team mom asks for trophy and party money. Afterward, I asked my kid what he liked best about playing football and he said, "We get doughnuts and cider at halftime."
About Six-Word Questions
SMITH Magazine brings you an entirely new kind of six-word experience: Six-Word Questions. This is the place to pose a question to the SMITH community from, "What are your favorite Six-Word quotations" to challenging members to pen Six-Word Obituaries to the recently departed to Six-Word jokes and any other Six-Word question you can dream up. You can even request that the responses be in six words. Everyone has a question—what's yours?
