If you've lived your life in a manner that will net you a reward in the afterlife (i.e. religiously/faithfully) and it happens that you were wrong, nothing changes. You've still ostensibly done good and left the world a little better off for your having been here. Even if you're not a believer in the afterlife, there will still be life after you... so live in such a way as to set an example and provide a future for the next generation.
I've never bought the "after-life" stuff. As far as I'm concerned, this life is all there is...live it accordingly. There won't be any chances to do it over, or be patted on the back for a job well-done. Be the best you can be every day. an afterlife won't matter.
Blaise Pascal's Wager
You are playing a game concerning God. 50/50 chance God is or He is not. Human reason usually can't figure it out. You must wager.
Consider the gain or loss: Two chances: gain, and you gain all. Lose (because He is not), you lose nothing. So, wager. Wager that He is, gain an infinity of an infinitely happy life with One who says He can't stop thinking about you individually, understanding our humanity and with only thoughts of loving good/abundance. It's a gain against a finite number of chances of loss; what you stake is finite; in a game where there are equal risks of gain and of loss with the infinite, eternal to gain.
