Sites We Love: Dear Thyroid’s Six-Word Thygraphs

Dear Thyroid provides a very unique kind of support for patients of thyroid diseases and thyroid cancers. As opposed to other support communities that might just list some facts and put you in touch with other people in the same situation, Dear Thyroid offers their readers a literary outlet for writing about their experiences.

A few weeks ago, Dear Thyroid editor Robyn Davis Hahn, just happened to be listening toTalk of the Nation and caught Larry and Rachel’s piece about our latest book of Six-Word Memoirs. And almost instantly, she composed the first six-word thyroid monograph, or thygraph: “Never the same again. Thanks, Thyroid!” A few days later, Robyn opened up the idea to her readers in a Six-Word Thygraph contest that resulted in some really amazing six-worders. Robyn recalls, “We had new visitors, first time posters, and some of our ‘regulars’ all compose hundreds of submissions, each one deeply personal, and yet universal, about the disease we share and how it has affected our lives.”

Needless to say, we’re honored to have inspired more writers to use the six-word form—especially on a site as unique and wonderful as Dear Thyroid. I highly recommend checking them out and definitely keep an eye out for the next Six-Word Thygraph contest.
