What's Your Next-Door Neighbor Story?

The Neighbor From the Mob

I was still in college at the time so I only came home as a rarity. One week, I came home for a break to find that we had a new neighbor for the first time in ten years. Unfortunately for us, this new neighbor was a nightmare. It started out with him purposefully literally mowing the DIRT, causing a windstorm of dust to envelop our backyard every time we took the clothes out on the line. After that, he proceeded to cut down the trees on our property claiming it was an "honest" mistake, not that the man would know a thing about honesty since, we later found out, he was well know as an associate of a local mob boss and a Detective came to see us when we finally called the cops. He was currently keeping a close eye on the guy. After the fiasco with the trees, he broke down and threw away our gutter which we took down when we painted the house. To solve the numerous encroachments onto our property, we put up a fence to set boundaries. The next day he broke the fence down with his gigantic tricked out SUV. That's when we called the cops and discovered his associations with local organized crime. The Detective told us to put up security cameras to catch him in the act next time he damages property. He moved out shortly after. I can only thank God that he moved out before somebody got shot. He tended to be a wee bit vengeful and I could only imagine what he would have done if we actually got evidence of him committing a crime. He was only 21 at the time and had already spent most of his 4 year old's life in jail. Our new neighbor is much better. I've never actually talked to them and they've never bothered us - a vast improvement.
