Promises

Are promises really made to be broken?
Or is that simply just a line misspoken
The silent words that fall from your lips
Leave me doubting, leave me doubting it

The things you say and the things you do
They let me know, that we’ll make it through
Those washed out eyes hide so much
But the pain inside keeps building up

Promises that drift away
They Leave behind a trail of faith
Walking down that empty path
Wishing (wishing) you could take it back
Pain left so permanent and deep
Why do you do this to me?

You are my life and my everything
I stumble on by under your wing
I ask God why I was blessed with you
All the broken lies buried deep with me
His only reply was “one day you’ll see
You’re mom’s exactly what you need”

As the years go by the memories never fade

I keep on trying to turn the page
As life takes its course, it seems to repeat
Waiting for you to make your defeat

Promises that drift away
Leave behind a trail of faith
Walking down that empty path
Wishing (wishing) you could take it back
Pain left so permanent and deep
Why do you do this to me?

We get a one way ticket through this life of pain
One train ride with a vicious game
But we won’t give up without a fight
This is our life let’s make it right

One chance to make a change
One change to make things right
One right to replace the wrong
One fight to keep us holding on
Holding on, we’re holding on
