Let The Wild Rumpus Book Club Begin!

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

By Meghan Milam

The Rumpus’ new monthly book club begins with Citrus County by John Brandon, author of Arkansas. Rumpus editor, and friend o’ SMITH, Stephen Elliott, says he’s launching with this choice “because we’re big fans of McSweeney’s and we’re always excited about their novels.” The club includes: a new book in the mail each month—often galleys or books that have just been released—online discussions with the authors, user reviews, and a promise of only good reads.

The club promises to have a discussion about new books of the club’s liking, “rather than waiting to be told what books are approved for cultural consumption,” says Elliott. “We want the book club to have an aesthetic; curation is going to be really important. This is really about community.”
