I too ask myself this question. Two guys in perticular bother me the most. At the time I was single with nothing really going on at home. They both had wives and children. If i would have done a better job of clearing the room from outside through the window they would both be alive.
I feel the same way, I asked to go after being stoplossed and was denied. I was single no wife or kids, now I have both and I'm going to try and live my life for the ones that sacraficed.
What you're feeling is completely normal; the reality is, war isn't rational. It doesn't choose who to take or who to spare based on the same criteria we would if we were in control. If either of you ever want to talk/vent/share, email me at forester.jade@gmail.com
SMITH Magazine is honored to team up with Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) to hear stories about coming home from war—in exactly six words. IAVA is the country's first and largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and has more than 200,000 veteran members and civilian supporters nationwide. IAVA addresses the critical issues facing new veterans and their families, including challenges related to education, employment and healthcare.
