You were only 17 when you went off to World War 11 ,you were taken out of school, off the farm away from you parents, brothers & sisters, you fought for our freedom, but you came back alive ,but your life as you once knew it died on that battlefield your childhood died there also for me & my 5 brothers & Mom. Returning from war when your family first saw you walking down the old dusty road back to the farm & to them your sister told me you were not the same brother they once knew. You died for me on that battlefield for all of us.I am sorry Daddy you saw so much death, so much pain for a young farm boy.
SMITH Magazine is honored to team up with Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) to hear stories about coming home from war—in exactly six words. IAVA is the country's first and largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and has more than 200,000 veteran members and civilian supporters nationwide. IAVA addresses the critical issues facing new veterans and their families, including challenges related to education, employment and healthcare.
