Paul Newman and His Very Own

At the time, they'd probably been married 30 years. They were holding hands and talking to each other.

There are so many ways to remember Paul Newman.

What _I_ remember is the night I saw him with his wife, Joanne Woodward, at a restaurant in Beverly Hills. At the time, they'd probably been married 30 years. They were holding hands and talking to each other. Whatever he was saying was making her toss her head back and laugh.

I remember she once said that to marry a man who can make you laugh is worth more than beauty or sexiness. I remember reading that his wedding present to her was a silver cup inscribed with the words "So you wound up with Apollo/ If he's sometimes hard to swallow/ Use this." I remember watching them and thinking, "So this is what happiness looks like."
